The Manu National Park is located between the provinces of Paucartambo and Manu, framed in the Peruvian territory. The national park has an area of almost 2 million hectares; which is divided into three zones; the cultural, reserved and intangible.

This reserve was created in 1963 as the Manu National Forest; Two years later, it was proposed to create a park in this place, due to the importance of the flora and fauna of the place, solidifying this proposal in a report by advisor Lan Grimwood, in 1966. And in 1968 it was declared a National Reserve. After that, on May 29, 1973, the Manu National Park was created and in 1977 it was recognized by Unesco as a Biosphere Reserve. Years later, in 1987 it was declared a World Heritage Site by Unesco itself and in 1997 it was named a World Biosphere Reserve.

RECOMENDATIONS

What is the best time to travel?

The best time to visit the Manu National Park is between October and May, which corresponds to the dry season. Both in the Andes and in the southern jungle there is this season, which runs from May to October and is characterized by warm days and cold nights; and the rainy season. The latter runs from November to April and has more regular temperatures both day and night.

The dry season provides greater security when traveling and better possibilities of sighting wild animals. In the rainy season the flow of the rivers increases and there may be landslides on the roads, hence it is not recommended.
