Tour bridge Queswachaka

Three and a half hours from the city of Cusco, in the district of Quehue and at an altitude of 3,700 meters, is the Q’eswachaka bridge over the Apurímac River, which measures 29 meters long and 1.20 meters wide. Every year, during the second week of June, the communities of Chaupibanda, Choccayhua, Huinchiri and Ccollana Quehue meet for their renewal.

The Queswachaka Bridge is the last of the hanging bridges built by the Incas and which, thanks to the local peasant communities, survived the passage of time. This bridge is made of the wild straw of high altitude climates, the ‘icchu’. For a long time, every first week of June, the villagers hold a 3-day ceremony for the renewal of the bridge. The same thing used to do the Inca settlers for the conservation of their bridges. On the fourth day, a celebration is held that attracts many visitors. Currently, the bridge and the renewal ritual is considered Cultural Heritage of Peru.
