ITINERARY FOR THE COLCA CANYON TOUR - 1 DAY
The full-day Colca Canyon tour begins early with pickup from your hotel in Arequipa to embark on the journey to the imposing Colca Canyon. After approximately 3 hours of travel, we’ll make a brief stop in Chivay to enjoy a typical breakfast and recharge our energy.
After breakfast, we’ll travel for an hour to reach the famous Cruz del Cóndor, one of the canyon’s best natural viewpoints. From here, we’ll be able to appreciate the majestic views of one of the world’s deepest canyons. We’ll have ample time to observe the flight of the Andean Condor, a sacred symbol of the Andes, and take photographs of the landscape.
On the return to Chivay, we’ll visit charming traditional villages such as Antahuilque and Maca (known for their colonial churches, pre-Inca terraces, and living customs), and Yanque, where we can enjoy the hot springs of volcanic origin (optional for 1 hour).
Around midday, we’ll arrive back in Chivay, where we’ll enjoy lunch at a local restaurant. On the return route to Arequipa, we’ll stop at the Patapampa viewpoint, at 4,800 meters above sea level —the highest point of the tour. From there, we’ll observe the majestic Ampato, Sabancaya, and Hualca Hualca volcanoes aligned on the horizon.
Then we’ll stop at the wetlands of the Pampa Cañahuas National Reserve to appreciate the local flora and fauna. The tour ends in the afternoon in Arequipa.
