Day 1: Arequipa – Pampa Cañahuas – Patahuasi – Toccra Wetlands – Chivay
The adventure to the Colca Canyon begins with pick-up from your hotel in Arequipa between 07:30 and 08:00 in the morning. On the way, we will make several stops to admire the stunning Andean landscapes as we reach the town of Chivay. The journey will take approximately 5 to 6 hours, including the scheduled visits.
The first stop will be at Pampa Cañahuas (3,800 meters above sea level / 12,467 feet), located within the Salinas and Aguada Blanca National Reserve, where we will be able to observe vicuñas in their natural habitat. Next, in Patahuasi (4,000 meters above sea level / 13,123 feet), we will taste the traditional coca tea, ideal for aiding acclimatization to the altitude.
Next, we will visit the Toccra Bofedales (4,300 meters above sea level / 14,107 feet), home to alpacas, llamas, and various Andean birds. Also on the way, we will visit the Volcanoes viewpoint (4,910 meters above sea level / 16,109 feet), from where we will admire the impressive mountain range and the snow-capped peaks of Ampato, Sabancaya, and Hualca Hualca.
At noon, we will arrive at the charming town of Chivay (3,635 meters above sea level / 11,926 feet), where we will have time to enjoy a delicious lunch (not included). Later, we will check into the hotel and have the opportunity to relax in the village's hot springs (optional). In the evening, you can enjoy dinner (not included) at a local restaurant while delighting in a folk show that revives the traditional dances of the Colca Valley.
Day 2: Chivay - Cruz del Cóndor – Colca Valley Viewpoint – Arequipa
The second day's journey will start very early in the morning. After breakfast at the hotel, between 06:00 and 06:30 in the morning, we will head to the famous Cruz del Cóndor viewpoint (3,287 meters above sea level / 10,784 feet), considered the best observation point of the Colca Canyon. Here we will stay for approximately 1 hour to watch the majestic flight of the Andean condor in its natural habitat, while we admire the vastness of the canyon and the sunrise among the mountains. We will also have time to take photographs, explore the area, and capture unforgettable memories of this unique experience.
After enjoying this extraordinary natural spectacle, we will board our vehicle again to tour various viewpoints of the Colca Valley. During the journey, we will observe impressive pre-Inca and Inca terraces, as well as picturesque traditional towns like Yanque and Maca, where we can appreciate part of the local culture, its beautiful landscapes, and its historic colonial churches. In some towns, it will also be possible to taste typical local drinks (optional).
Around noon, we will enjoy a lunch (not included) before starting the return to Arequipa. During the journey, we will continue to enjoy the spectacular Andean landscapes until we reach the Plaza de Armas of Arequipa, approximately at 5:30 PM, thus concluding our unforgettable 2-day experience in the Colca Canyon.
