The second destination of the tour will be the circular terraces of Moray, around 10:00 in the morning. At 11:15 in the morning, we will visit the Maras Salt Mines, located just a few minutes from Moray. In this place, there are more than three thousand stepped pools from which mineral salt is extracted from an underground spring. In Maras, you can appreciate one of the most unique landscapes of the Sacred Valley, ideal for unforgettable photographs.

After visiting Maras, we will make a gastronomic stop for lunch in Urubamba, in the heart of the Sacred Valley at 12:30 in the afternoon. The buffet lunch will feature a wide selection of typical Andean dishes suitable for all tastes.

The second day of our journey will begin with pick-up from your hotel in Ollantaytambo around 5:00 a.m., to head to the train station in the same town. After approximately an hour of travel, we will arrive at the Chachabamba sector (Km 104), the starting point of the Short Inca Trail adventure.

Upon arrival, we will have to pass through the first checkpoint, where we will have time to prepare ourselves better. The first archeological site on the route is Chachabamba, where our guide will provide an introduction to the history of the Incas and the importance of this ancient route used to reach Machu Picchu. Next, we will begin an uphill hike surrounded by lush vegetation typical of the cloud forest and spectacular Andean landscapes.

After approximately three hours of walking, we will arrive at the archeological site of Wiñay Wayna. This impressive place is considered one of the best-preserved gems of the Inca Trail and stands out for its vertical agricultural terraces and its privileged location among the mountains. Here we will also have time to take a break, explore the place, enjoy the landscapes, and learn more about its importance during the Inca era.

Next to Wiñay Wayna, we will enjoy a delicious Box Lunch in the midst of stunning views. Next, we will continue walking for approximately two hours until we reach the Intipunku gate. From this emblematic place, we will get the first panoramic view of Machu Picchu, an unforgettable reward for those who travel this historic route.

After a brief rest, we will begin to descend for about 30 minutes until we reach the Guardian's House, considered one of the best places to contemplate the majesty of Machu Picchu and capture the most representative photographs of the citadel.

At the end of our tour in Machu Picchu, we will board the bus to the town of Aguas Calientes on a short journey of approximately 20 minutes. There we will enjoy dinner and spend the night in a comfortable hotel to explore every detail of the Inca citadel of Machu Picchu the next day.

Why does the Inca Trail close in February?

It is a highly sought-after route that requires annual maintenance. This work is carried out in February, the month with the heaviest rains, and the route reopens on March 1st.

How many days in advance should I arrive in Cusco to acclimate?

It is recommended to arrive at least 2 days in advance. During that time, it is possible to organize acclimatization activities, such as a half-day city tour or an excursion to the Sacred Valley. Those coming from another high-altitude area may only need 1 full day.

Is travel insurance mandatory for the tour?

For your greater peace of mind and safety during the trip, we recommend having travel insurance in case of any eventuality that may arise during the journey. Will I receive travel information before traveling?

Can I change my passport number after booking the Sacred Valley and Short Inca Trail to Machu Picchu?

For the Sacred Valley, the change is more flexible. For the Short Inca Trail, the State only allows the change if a copy of the new and the previous passport is presented; if the previous one is no longer available, another official document with the same name is accepted. Additionally, the passport must not expire within six months after or during the trip.

How to get to Cusco?

Most travelers arrive in Cusco by air. If you are traveling from abroad with a connection in Lima, you will need to collect your luggage and check it in again for your flight to Cusco. We recommend LATAM or Avianca airlines for their better assistance in case of possible changes, delays, or flight cancelations.

How is the outstanding balance paid?

The balance is paid in cash (US dollars or soles) at the Cusco office. The historic center has numerous ATMs.
