day 1
Day 1: Cusco – Cloud Forest – Bambu Lodge
Our journey to the Manu National Park begins early, departing from the city of Cusco towards Manu. Along the way, we will stop at the enigmatic Chullpas of Ninamarca, ancient pre-Inca tombs surrounded by unique landscapes. Continuing our trip, we will reach the colonial town of Paucartambo, where we will learn about its history, traditions, and distinctive architecture.
After visiting Paucartambo, we head towards Acjanaco, the entrance point to the Manu National Park. From there, we begin our descent into the cloud forest, making several stops to observe birds, orchids, and giant ferns. Our main highlight will be spotting the Andean Cock-of-the-Rock, Peru’s national bird, in its natural habitat in the San Pedro area.
At the end of the day, we arrive at our first accommodation, Bambu Lodge, where we will enjoy a local dinner and receive an informative briefing from our guide about the next day’s activities.
day 2
Day 2: Bambu Lodge – Atalaya Port – Cocha Otorongo – Casa Matsiguenka
After breakfast, we will head towards Atalaya Port, making stops along the way to appreciate the local flora, fauna, and plantations of coca, cassava, and tropical fruits. From Atalaya, we will navigate along the Alto Madre de Dios River, a tributary of the Amazon, with opportunities to spot birds such as parrots, oropendolas, and vultures, as well as mammals like monkeys and capybaras.
Upon arriving at the Limonal checkpoint, park rangers will welcome us to the Manu National Park. During the journey, we will be surrounded by the lush Amazon rainforest.
Along the route, we will visit Cocha Otorongo Lake, where we will climb a 20-meter observation tower to admire the local wildlife and listen to the sounds of the jungle. In the afternoon, we will arrive at Casa Matsiguenka, where we will stay in traditional bungalows (with private or shared bathrooms) and share time with native families. Dinner and overnight stay here.
day 3
Day 3: Casa Matsiguenka – Cocha Salvador

Today we explore the famous Cocha Salvador Lake aboard a paddle-powered catamaran, where we may spot giant otters, an endangered species, as well as herons, skimmers, monkeys, and caimans. The rest of the day will be spent walking along the area’s trails in search of some of the monkey species that inhabit the forest. At sunset, we will enjoy the beautiful view before returning to our lodge for dinner. Later in the evening, we will have the option to take a night walk to observe the nocturnal wildlife.
day 4
Day 4: Casa Matsiguenka – Tapir Clay Lick – Dorado Lodge
In the morning, we will explore the surroundings of the lodge with the chance to spot tamarin monkeys, the smallest monkeys in the world. After lunch, we will navigate along the Manu River towards Boca Manu, looking out for black caimans and, with luck, the majestic jaguar resting on the riverbanks.
Along the way, we will stop at the Native Community of Diamante, where we can support locals by purchasing handicrafts and regional products. In the afternoon, we will hike along new trails and visit the tapir clay lick, a site where these animals feed on mineral-rich clay. After this visit, we will head to Dorado Lodge for dinner and an overnight stay.
day 5
Day 5: Dorado Lodge – Macaw Clay Lick – Bambu Lodge
Early in the morning, we will visit the spectacular macaw and parrot clay lick, where dozens of birds descend in flocks to feed on mineral-rich clay. After this activity, we will return to the lodge, pack our belongings, and board the boat. We will navigate the Madre de Dios River for approximately 5 hours, enjoying breakfast along the way and stopping at the hot springs for a relaxing break. We will then continue our journey, and upon arriving at Atalaya Port, our transport will be waiting to take us to Bambu Lodge, where we will spend our final night.
day 6
Day 6: Bambu Lodge – Cusco
After breakfast, we will begin our return journey to Cusco, once again passing through the cloud forest, making stops to spot birds and capture photographs of the local flora and fauna. We will arrive in Cusco in the afternoon.
