ITINERARY FOR THE TOURIST BUS ROUTE OF THE SUN CUSCO TO PUNO
The Route of the Sun tourist bus tour begins with the fresh morning breeze in Cusco, from where we embark on the journey to Andahuaylillas. There awaits us the Temple of San Pedro Apóstol, the Sistine Chapel of America, a treasure where canvases from the Cusco school, the imposing organ, silver and goldwork, and the baroque altar envelop us in art and history.
The journey continues toward the impressive archaeological complex of Raqchi, one of the most fascinating points on the Route of the Sun. There, the Temple of Wiracocha rises majestically, surrounded by ancient Inca constructions that tell stories of a grand past.
After exploring Raqchi, the district of Marangani welcomes us with a buffet lunch at the “Marangani Tourist Restaurant Museum.” Novo-Andean flavors and vegetarian options delight the palate, while the Cultural Interpretation Center invites us to immerse ourselves in the region’s vibrant history.
After lunch, we ascend to La Raya, the highest point of the route and natural border between Cusco and Puno. There, llamas and alpacas graze peacefully under the imposing gaze of Chimboya Snow Peak, offering an unforgettable postcard.
The journey then takes us to Pucará, the cradle of ancient cultures of the southern Andean altiplano. At the Archaeological Lithic Museum, we explore the origins of Andean life —from hunting and gathering to the emergence of the first societies. With hearts full of stories, we depart toward the city of Puno.
