ITINERARY FOR THE AREQUIPA CITY TOUR + SANTA CATALINA MONASTERY
We begin our City Tour in Arequipa with a visit to the imposing Santa Catalina Monastery, a true architectural gem that houses more than 400 years of history and religious art. Its volcanic sillar walls envelop us as we explore mysterious cells, cobblestone streets that whisper stories, cloisters overflowing with flowers, and vibrant murals painted with natural pigments—witnesses to the artistic mestizaje of the colonial era.
Strolling through its narrow passages is like traveling back in time, discovering ancestral dwellings that still preserve their original furnishings and convey the profound spiritual legacy of the era.
We continue our tour to the emblematic Plaza de Armas of Arequipa, the heart of the city, where the Arequipa Cathedral stands out—a monumental work that fuses neo-Renaissance style with baroque details. This vibrant space allows us to appreciate local daily life, surrounded by history and majestic architecture.
The route continues to the San Lázaro neighborhood, considered the oldest in Arequipa. Its cobblestone alleys, white houses, and wooden balconies evoke the charm of the region’s early Spanish settlements. It’s a perfect place to capture authentic photographs and to feel the city’s traditional essence.
Finally, we visit the Tristán del Pozo Manor House, one of Arequipa’s most emblematic colonial residences. Its finely carved sillar façade and mestizo architecture make it a symbol of Arequipa’s viceregal art. In this place, we discover stories and the invaluable heritage it safeguards.
