ITINERARY FOR THE AREQUIPA COUNTRYSIDE TOUR
The Arequipa Countryside adventure begins at the Plaza de Armas of Arequipa, the starting point toward our first stop: the picturesque district of Yanahuara. This traditional neighborhood is famous for its sillar stone arches, known as the Portales de Yanahuara, from where we’ll enjoy a privileged view of the imposing Misti volcano, one of the city’s most representative symbols.
We continue the tour toward the Carmen Alto Viewpoint, a natural balcony ideal for taking in Arequipa’s beauty. From here, we get a panoramic view of the three guardian volcanoes: Misti, Chachani, and Pichu Pichu, as well as the extensive green blanket of the agricultural valley surrounding the city. It’s an excellent spot to take unforgettable photographs.
Then we’ll head to Incalpaca, where we can observe llamas, alpacas, vicuñas, and guanacos up close—emblematic species of the Peruvian Andes. This stop offers us a cultural and educational experience ideal for learning about the importance of these camelids in Peruvian textile tradition.
Our next visit is to the Founder’s Mansion, an elegant colonial manor house that preserves its original architecture and features valuable historical pieces that transport us to Arequipa’s viceregal past.
Finally, we’ll arrive at the Sabandía Mill, a 17th-century architectural marvel that still operates today. This hydraulic mill reveals the secrets of traditional milling and also invites us to enjoy exciting additional activities such as horseback riding through the countryside, ATV tours, zipline for the more adventurous, and tasting delicious typical Arequipa cuisine.
This tour is perfect for those who wish to immerse themselves in the living history of Arequipa while enjoying its natural and cultural landscapes.
