Itinerary
Discover what awaits you in the PUNO TOUR: UROS AND TAQUILE ISLANDS – 1 DAY
day 1
TAQUILE ISLANDS - 1 DAY
The adventure begins at dawn with pickup from your hotel in Puno. Then, we take you to the Lake Titicaca port, where a motorboat awaits us to set sail toward the enigmatic Uros floating islands.
We’ll travel by boat for about 30 minutes, enjoying panoramic views of the lake. The Uros islands are built on totora reed platforms; currently, there are more than 50 islands, of which we’ll visit two to learn up close about the way of life of their inhabitants.
During the visit, the guide will explain how the inhabitants maintain their ancient traditions and how they build the islands, houses, and boats entirely from totora reeds. Afterward, we’ll have free time to explore, capture unique moments, and exchange stories with local families.
After experiencing the magic of the Uros, the journey continues for two and a half hours across the waters of Titicaca to Taquile Island, famous for its vibrant handwoven textiles, which have earned UNESCO recognition.
Upon disembarking on Taquile, we’ll take an hour-and-a-half walk along its cobblestone paths, enjoying impressive lake views. We’ll share moments with a local family to discover their daily life, and then head to Taquile’s central plaza, where we can purchase traditional textiles or taste typical dishes from the area (lunch not included).
After completing our visit to the Uros and Taquile islands, we board the motorboat again to begin our return to Puno, arriving in the city in the afternoon.

Altitude Sickness: How to Prevent and Treat Symptoms
Puno is located at about 3,827 meters above sea level, so it is common for travelers to experience dizziness, tiredness, headaches, and shortness of breath. Follow these recommendations that will surely help you avoid and deal with altitude sickness.
- Keep hydrated. Water is the best ally to combat and prevent this condition.
- Avoid alcohol and tobacco at all costs. Alcohol is dehydrating and smoking can worsen or cause difficulty in breathing.
- Eat a light but high-calorie diet. Altitude increases our need for ‘fuel’ as it dehydrates you and burns calories much faster.
- Drink coca tea or chew coca leaves. This medicinal plant from the Andes is known to alleviate the symptoms of altitude sickness and improve the acclimatization process.
- Take it easy. Do not push yourself too much in the first 2-3 days after your arrival, leave the strenuous walks for later.
