day 1
PUERTO MALDONADO - PUERTO CAPITANÍA - COCHA CAIMÁN
Upon arriving in Puerto Maldonado, the Biodiversity Capital of Peru, our team will welcome you at the airport, marking the beginning of an Amazonian adventure full of surprises. We will start with a panoramic tour of the main points of the city and then head to Puerto Capitanía, where we will board our boat to navigate the Madre de Dios River towards our ecological lodge, located about 30 km from the city.
During the journey, the landscape transforms before your eyes: the rural fields disappear and the dense tropical vegetation takes over the horizon, harboring an amazing variety of species native to Tambopata. As we advance, the air becomes fresher and the jungle envelops you with its vibrant energy.
Upon arrival at the lodge, a warm welcome and a tropical refreshment await you. After savoring a lunch prepared with ingredients from the region, we will prepare for a walk to Cocha Caimán, an emblematic lagoon that holds the secrets of Tambopata. In this natural water mirror, we can observe the imposing black caiman and the elegant white caiman, along with aquatic birds that find refuge as evening falls. Cocha Caimán is a magical corner where the sky and the forest merge into a single work of natural art.
Upon returning to the lodge, we will enjoy an exquisite dinner and free time to relax at the bar or in the game room. Sleeping surrounded by the sounds of the Tambopata jungle will be a unique and unforgettable experience.

day 2
BUNGALOWS - SANDOVAL LAKE - MONKEY ISLAND
After a delicious breakfast, one of the most memorable days begins: the visit to Sandoval Lake, jewel of the Tambopata National Reserve. We will navigate upstream along the Madre de Dios River to the entrance of the reserve, where we will enter the tropical jungle to begin a walk full of discoveries.
The trail to Sandoval Lake is surrounded by centuries-old trees, wild orchids, and birds of a thousand colors. Upon reaching the channel that connects to the lake, we will take a rowboat to enter its calm waters. Sandoval Lake is home to giant otters, caimans, macaws, turtles, howler monkeys, and an incredible variety of Amazonian fauna. With luck, we will be able to spot the enigmatic giant otter (Pteronura brasiliensis), symbol of Tambopata’s wildlife.
After this experience, we will return to the lodge to enjoy a comforting lunch. In the afternoon, we can join an optional excursion to Monkey Island, near Sandoval Lake, where it is possible to observe species such as the spider monkey, capuchin, titi monkey, and tamarin. This protected area of Tambopata gives us the opportunity to experience one of the most authentic encounters with Amazonian fauna.
As evening falls, we will enjoy a spectacular sunset over Sandoval Lake, when the sky is tinged with orange and pink tones. Then, we will return to the lodge to share a delicious dinner and enjoy the nocturnal calm of Tambopata.

day 3
BUNGALOWS - PUERTO MALDONADO
The jungle comes alive with the echo of howler monkeys and the song of birds that cross the Tambopata sky. After breakfast in the lodge’s dining room, we prepare for the return journey, navigating again along the Madre de Dios River towards Puerto Maldonado.
During the journey, one last look at the landscape envelops us in the magic of Sandoval Lake and the serenity of Cocha Caimán, corners that capture the living essence of Tambopata, a natural paradise that always invites you to return.

What is the best month to travel to Puerto Maldonado?
If you would like to be part of the celebration of the city of Puerto Maldonado, then consider traveling in July. But, if you prefer to contemplate the beautiful vegetation of the Amazon jungle, consider visiting this city during the humid months, since that is when the forest bears fruit.
