WAQRAPUKARA EXCURSION ITINERARY - 1 DAY
Full day Waqrapukara trek
Our excursion to Waqrapukara, the majestic fortress shaped like bull horns, begins very early with pickup from your hotel in Cusco. We embark on a journey of approximately two hours to reach Santa Lucía, but first, we’ll make a stop in Cusipata to savor a traditional breakfast that will fill us with energy and enthusiasm for the journey ahead.
From Santa Lucía, we begin the hike to Waqrapukara, a three-hour ascent through the grandeur of Andean landscapes: imposing mountains, deep ravines, surprising rock formations, and the absolute silence that only nature can offer. With each step, we delve into the mystery of one of the most enigmatic and least explored Inca temples in Cusco.
Our first stop takes us to the Waqrapukara viewpoint, where the landscape unfolds in all its majesty: the archaeological complex guarded by two colossal rock formations that evoke horns, a symbol of power and spirituality in the Andean worldview. After a moment to admire and capture the beauty of Waqrapukara, we descend to the heart of the complex to explore its terraces, sacred enclosures, and walls that reveal the skill of its builders. Our guide immerses us in the history, symbols, and enigmas that surround this site, venerated as a center of worship and power in the Inca era.
After this unforgettable experience, we begin the descent to Cusipata, where a typical buffet lunch awaits us to recharge our energy. Finally, we return to Cusco and arrive at night, carrying with us the memory of a day filled with adventure, culture, and a deep connection with the ancestral legacy of the Andes.
This Waqrapukara tour is perfect for those who long for authentic experiences, off the beaten path, and wish to discover the best-kept secrets of the ancient Inca Empire.
